In a heartfelt demonstration of compassion and service, the Rotary Club of Ewutuntun successfully carried out its Widows Empowerment Project, which saw the donation of 20 grinding machines to widows in the Oshodi community.

The initiative, which aligns with Rotary’s focus on economic and community development, was held in two phases. Screening and selection of the beneficiaries took place on Thursday, 20th March, 2025, followed by the official presentation ceremony on Tuesday, 25th March, 2025, at 1A Arowojobe Street, off Adeyemi Street, Oshodi, Lagos.

The project was designed to empower widows through economic support, helping them gain financial stability and independence through the use of grinding machines — a practical tool for starting small-scale businesses in local communities.

Rotarian Bukonla Alamu, President of the Rotary Club of Ewutuntun, expressed her gratitude for the success of the event and reiterated the club’s commitment to uplifting vulnerable members of society.

“This initiative was born out of our desire to bring lasting change. By empowering these women with grinding machines, we have given them a chance to support their families with dignity,” she said.

Rotarian Kudirat Olaopoola, who chaired the Widows Empowerment Committee, emphasized the importance of investing in women-led households, particularly widows who often carry the weight of their families alone.

“It was a privilege to witness the joy on their faces as they received their machines. We are proud to have contributed to their journey toward self-sufficiency,” she said.

The widows, selected through a transparent process, received not only the machines but also words of encouragement and support from Rotary leaders and community stakeholders present at the event. The beneficiaries expressed deep appreciation for the gesture, describing it as life-changing.

This project added to the Rotary Club of Ewutuntun’s growing portfolio of impactful community-based initiatives, reinforcing its reputation for service and compassion.
